Good reference book and guide for a great game

This is a decent enough guide for an addictively fun game. There is a lot of info in the book to help shortcut the learning process and answer many questions that arise over the course of gameplay. It informs you of the best racing lines and most of the shortcuts available in the game, although I find the maps confusing to read. The descriptions of different areas of a track aren't always in order and tips are sometimes awkwardly described.

The characters and vehicles are described fairly well, but I find the descriptions of some of the play modes and gameplay actions are too brief. I don't mind figuring things out on my own, but when I purchase a guide, I expect more detail of all aspects of the game - not just some of them. For example, Mirror Mode is not really well defined in the book and one is left guessing what it is until you actually unlock it and see for yourself. Same thing applies to 'Retro' cups - it's often referred to, but not well defined.

Although there is a list of unlockable characters and vehicles in the back of the book, there should be more detail and emphasis on them since it's such an important part of the game. They're presented as more of an afterthought than an integral aspect of the game. Another thing I'd like to see is some form of an index.

I am SO happy I decided to purchase this game guide. It shows so many tricks and hints on how to get "ahead of the pack". I especially found the selection on the differences in the vehicle and character selections can make on your races. If you are a Mario Kart addict like me - this is a must for you. I would tell you it would also make a perfect gift for another MK player you may know of, but why increase their chances of winning against you. :-)

my 9 year old son loves it

Wish I could give a better review but I haven't read the book.. I did however give it to my 9 year old son who says it's been a big help playing the wii game it's based on and it's given him info on a few little gems/easter eggs he would normally have been unaware of..

Great range for cultural studies of religions

The book is a collection of essays, each dealing in the ways in which various religious traditions have shaped constructs of racial and ethnic identities. I found it fascinating, because of the various cultures covered in this range of essays. Some of them provide excerpted original texts and stories of the ethnic/religious groups being discussed. It really broadened my range of knowledge, which is primarily the interplay of Northern European Christianity/American colonists with the African slave populations. In brief and illuminating examples, cultures that I would not have been initially drawn to were made intelligible and I became very engaged in learning about them in more detail. Some of the essays focus on case studies, which are always interesting to me, given the attention to detail and the author's method of relating these particular examples to a broader context. I have graduate-level training in the history of religions and these essays impressed me with their academic rigor as well as their accessibility to the layperson.

I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the interplay between religion and culture and the shaping of identities through history.

As CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) has changed, grown, and matured in recent decades, it has become synonymous with practical teaching and learning methods in many parts of the world. This book, which is a collection of essays from authorities in the field, serves as a great reference for those who want to learn more about the different contexts CALL currently applies to, how CALL has developed through history and how it exists in different learning environments, and how it is utilized in language education.

Clocking in at close to 400 pages, this is a massive tome that will surely have something for everyone who is interested in different aspects of CALL research, methodology, and practical applications. The text is broken up into three main parts, each with individual, easily accessible chapters that cover a wide array of CALL-related topics. Contemporary Computer-Assisted Language Learning will be a fine addition to any library or collection of texts that deal with this broad topic. I could not give it a higher recommendation!

As a reader and CALL researcher, I really appreciate the way a variety of key, new CALL topics are presented, from historical, theoretical, methodical, technological and practical perspectives. Through 18 chapters contributed by researchers from different countries yet related fields, this edited volume can help the reader to have better understanding of how CALL has developed, especially in teacher education, language learning, language testing, social media, and task design. After reading this volume, I had a clearer picture of the evolution of CALL. I also came up with new ideas and research directions to investigate further. I think this comprehensive contributed volume can best serve as a great reference for individuals who desire to learn more about CALL, how it has been developed, how it is used in different learning environments, and how it is used in language education. According to Mike Levy, the book is essential reading for postgraduate students of language teaching, for CALL researchers—in short, for “old hands and newcomers alike” (p. xviii). Contemporary Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is therefore highly recommended by me for libraries to include in their collections and for students to invest for useful resource.

I promise you would curse the publisher forever by purchasing this book!
Why? Book dimension and the fond size.
This book is only 6 by 9 inches, compare to average book that should be 8.5 by 11 inches. Eye stress due to the reduction in the size of the fond, and mental distress due to the need of at least three hands to keep the book open is so high that you would not last long enough to focus on the technical part of the book.
Don't purchase this book; show your opposition to the counterfeit products - otherwise the next generation of the text books would be 4 by 7 inches.

Generally speaking the book is useful and it might be an excellent help for teachers. It wood be the best if the book will contain more questions and answers about Clinic Pathology and Laboratory analysis. It wood be evn better if correlated with clinical cases, from the simpler to the more complicated. few questions should be of pure reasoning in Medicine and related subjects. In any case thank to the authors for the excellent effort.

Stringbean Coe and his older brother Fred take a long trip from their home in Jeloway, Kans., to the Pacific Ocean, riding in Fred's ancient truck, which has a little house built on the back. And like most travelers, they take pictures and send postcards home to their parents. In an unusual scrapbook format, the Williamses integrate the Coes' memorabilia into a portrayal of their trip across the country. The first postcard, depicting Mr. Moe Junkologist of 100 Acres of Automotive Junk, includes the information that the boys didn't leave on time: they stopped to buy a hat and a spare tire. Next come photos Stringbean has taken and more postcards, all highlighting the trip: a visit to a mining town where their grandfather grew up, a circus packing up camp and, ultimately, the ocean. The choice of format, the illustrations full of winning details (the stamps alone invite closer inspection) and the convincingly childlike letters blend together and create an absorbing travelogue. Grade 1-4 This is Grandpa's album, made for the family, of the photos and daily postcards that Stringbean Coe and his big brother Fred sent home to the folks the summer they traveled from Kansas to the Pacific in Fred's truck. It's a journey of discovery, all right; String bean's comments reveal reactions to their experiences and subtle changes in attitude. Tributaries to the mainstream of the trip itself include flare-ups be tween the brothers; Stringbean's home sickness; a growing awareness of fami ly history; a search for a clown with a missing shoe; and the appearance of Potato, the faithful dog who lit out from home to join Stringbean on the trip. Be cause of the skillfully-handled format, text and pictures don't just balance each otherthey depend on each oth er. It's a smooth collaboration, too, with the works of Williams senior and junior blending perfectly in style and spirit. The color postcards are full of affectionate and idiosyncratic detail, right down to the postage stamps. There are visual jokes that adults can enjoy, but never the kind that wink over the heads of children. The color work has that naive exuberance that Williams' fans have come to expect. Stringbean's Trip is a Journey for All

Stringbean's Trip to the Shining Sea by Vera B. Williams andJennifer Williams is a realistic and imaginative children's story.The format is a scrapbook that chronicles the road trip Stringbean and his brother take to the Pacific Ocean from their home in Kansas. The amusing text is written in the form of postcards the brothers send to family members as they make their way to their destination. The illustrations are unique, and are "photographs" and colorful postcards displaying Stringbean's experiences in a fun and personnal way. The reader feels s/he is actually looking at someone's scrapbook and as the story progresses feels like a family member to whom the postcards have been sent. As well as being entertaining, the book is a useful geography tool for children, allowing them to travel the journey on a map as the brother's make their way across country.
